Life + Live Below the Line 2012

USB hand warmer mouse pad

Life has been super busy but they have been all great/happy things to be part of. I’m sorry for the lack of update.

Brisbane has been getting “colder” (although it is like a really nice sunny day outside right now – much better than Sydney!). As an asian girl with fast metabolism, my extremeties get cold! Chris bought this for me last Christmas 🙂 and I’ve had to take it out and start using it.

Since last time we’ve been down to Sydney again for a Pastor’s conference and spent a short time in Gold Coast on our day off, using as much of we could of our Brissy Entertainment Book (Thanks cousins!)

We’re also beginning the Live Below the Line challenge again for 2012. Chris decided we should do this every year. Today we went shopping for it. For those who followed us last year, the food we bought is fairly similar. The rules are the same – $2 a day per person on food, we can’t get freebies, and if we use condiments/seasonings we have to buy the WHOLE packet as part of the $$. Here it is:

Food for the week

So here’s what we got:

  • Sweet Potato (1kg) = $1.10
  • Granny Smith Apples x 10 = $1.84
  • Carrots (1kg) = $1.39
  • Rice (2kg) = $2.49
  • Oats (750g) = $0.99
  • Frozen Vegies (1kg) = $1.60
  • Milk (1L) = $1.25
  • Eggs (600g ea) = $1.70
  • Salt (500g) = $0.79 / 2 = $0.40 (after sharing with another group)
  • Butter (250g) = $1.49
  • One whole Chicken = $5.05

Total = $19.29. Yes!! we have CHICKEN! how exciting!! the idea is hopefully to use the bones for soup/congee as well as for meat as well. Most of the groceries came from Aldi. I’m a little nervous about eating Granny Smiths everyday. But the chicken should make up for it. Hopefully this year’s rice will taste better. This years sweet potato looks older though – hopefully it’ll taste ok.

As Christians not only the gospel is important to us but also those who are in need. This is one way we can raise awareness of extreme poverty and have a taste of it too. Please join us or sponsor us. A guy at our previous church did not participate, but sponsored us what he would spend on food for the week. This was a pretty meaningful way to contribute. He ended up giving > $100. Perhaps you’d like to take that up as well. You can do this by going to the below links:
